Here’s the cultural challenge: Critics of the faith state the Bible is outdated and Jesus is irrelevant because He lived over 2000 years ago! Therefore, the truth of His teachings are incapable of addressing contemporary issues; withstand the raging torrent of anti-biblical arguments and most of all, meet one’s personal needs! But according to author, apologist and pastor Joe Boot, Jesus is still speaking to our confused culture with as much clarity and as much controversy. So the question for those who follow Christ facing this cultural contempt is, “how then shall we answer?’ Now of course, according to 1 Peter 3:15 our response must be delivered in a mild and gentle manner, but have we merely focussed on the character of delivery at the expense of the content of delivery? In other words, be sensitive, non-offensive and God will defend Himself! Well, let me suggest that that excuse is an embarrassment to the gospel. Its a cop-out and the scripture puts the responsibility of not just announcing the gospel but defending the gospel upon those who are committed to following Christ. You’ll be hearing from Joe Boot throughout this program sharing from his latest book, “how then shall we answer” in speaking directly to this issue. The excuse that proclaiming and defending the gospel is not for the ordinary believer (if there is such), but the pastors and experts! So let me go ahead and ask, in a sea of multiple faiths, have we become content with our relevant gospel presentation? And in doing so, compromised the biblical command to contend for the faith?
